But it’s possible that you might have to wait a bit, as Google hasn’t announced the rollout, and only seems to have made it available to a limited number of users at present. <p dir="ltr"><br></p> <p dir="ltr"><img src="http://cdn1.tnwcdn.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/2016/04/facebook-messenger.jpg"></p> <p dir="ltr">Facebook is beginning to force users into downloading and using its ‘Messenger’ app if they want to continue messaging and real-time chatting with their friends on the network.</p> <p dir="ltr">Currently, the message acts as a sort of soft warning (that you can just click to close), stating: “Your conversations are moving to Messenger,” but it’s clear that the future of in-app messaging on Facebook is pretty bleak for users that refuse to make the switch. This summer, however, that will all change as the message forces users to make the switch, or give up the messaging functionality they’re accustomed to.</p> <p dir="ltr">Personally, I enjoy the Messenger app, but I could see why some would prefer not to have a second application to do everything the first one provided. Of course, Facebook would probably (correctly) argue that the additional app provides a better experience and is worth the download.</p> <p dir="ltr">Oh, and stickers, video, chatbots and all that jazz… Messenger only.</p>

HTC 10 to feature a Super LCD display, not AMOLED

<p dir="ltr">Despite leaks and previous reports, it seems that theHTC 10will sport a Super LCD screen rather than an AMOLED one.</p> <p dir="ltr">The news comes from famous leaker/tipster Evan Blass who posted on Twitter. For users looking to upgrade their current smartphone to the upcoming HTC 10, this may come at a bit ofa disappoint. However, Super LCD panels do offer some benefits over traditional LCD panels. Super LCD panels reduce battery consumption and have a better visibility. The Super LCD display is expected to contain 1440 x 2560 pixels, which is good for a QHD resolution.</p> <p dir="ltr">The display type isn’t the only bit of information in the post. We also received some details regarding the battery capacity. The HTC 10 will reportedly house a 3,000mAh battery, which I couldn’t imagine being replaceable. Next Version of Google Hangouts Might Eliminate SMS/MMS Messages Feature [Rumor]

<p dir="ltr">​While many of us don't use Google Hangouts as their SMS/MMS messaging app of choice, there are still agreat number of folks out there who do. If the latest rumor is true, those who use Hangouts for text messaging could be in for a rude surprise.</p> <p dir="ltr">The intel suggests that Google will remove the (carrier/native) SMS/MMS features from Google Hangouts in the next update to the app. This would mean that Google will officially separate that functionality into Hangouts and the Google Messenger App. </p> <p dir="ltr">The good news about that is that Messenger is actually a well rounded and is a more fleshed out SMS/texting app, so it shouldn't be toodifficult of a transition for most folks.Here at HQ, most of us already use Messenger separate from Hangouts anyway. Nexus Protect Plans Are Now Available on Project Fi as Well

<p dir="ltr">​When Google first launched their awesome Nexus Protect "insurance" for warranty repairs and accidents with Nexus devices, the only way you could get it was through the Google Play Store. </p> <p dir="ltr">This left folks who were early adopters of Google's Project Fi MVNO cellular service stuck without a protection plan on devices purchased through that service. Luckily they have seen the error of their ways on this oversight.</p> <p dir="ltr">You can now purchase the Nexus Protect accidental protection plan directly on the Project Fi website when you get a device there. Here's a quote with the details,"That has now changed with Project Fi buyers having the chance to purchase the Nexus Protect plan.</p> <p dir="ltr"> When purchased via Project Fi buyers get coverage against accidental damage suchas broken screens and mechanical breakdown for $5 per month.Nexus 6P buyers will pay a $99 deductible for repairs or replacements. <p dir="ltr">The Huawei P9, tipped to feature a fingerprint sensor and 5.2-inch display, could be on sale in less than six months, one source suggests.</p> <p dir="ltr">A report arriving courtesy ofMobile-Dadclaims that Huawei intends to launch the P9smartphone in March 2016, almost a year after the premium-feeling P8 made its way onto the market.</p> <p dir="ltr">Discussing specs, the mobile tech website says the Huawei P9,codenamed IP03, will arrive with a 5.2-inch display, this time boasting a ‘curved design’. The report notes that the resolution of the screen remains a mystery, although the gadget is apparently powered by Huawei’s own octa-core Kirin 950 processor.</p> <p dir="ltr"> A fingerprint sensor is simply mentioned as a ‘possibility’.Under the hood of the P9 will be 4GB of RAM, addsMobile-Dad, along with a dual rear-facing camera sporting laser auto focus technology. <p dir="ltr">While most people are patiently waiting andwatching for Android 6.0 Marshmallow to be available for their smartphones, not much noise has been generated by tablet owners who no doubt look forward to the sweet update.</p> <p dir="ltr"> NVIDIA appears to be ready to become one of the first manufacturers to get Android 6.0 Marshmallow out to their tablets thanks to an update for the NVIDIA SHIELD tablet K1. If NVIDIA gets the update out soon enough, and they should be close based on a video they released yesterday, they should only be trailing Google’s own Nexus line of tablets.</p> <p dir="ltr">The YouTube posting indicates NVIDIA plans to roll out the update for the NVIDIA SHIELD tablet K1 in December. Rdio will bow out next week

Google adds data-only support to Project Fi, Apple tablets included

<p dir="ltr"><u>When</u> Googlelaunchedthe service, Project Fi supported just one phone. Project Fi started with the Nexus 6 alone beforereplacing that support with the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X. </p> <p dir="ltr">A whopping two devices, no matter how current they are, isn’t exactly a winning strategy. Google needs to allow more devices to join its service that is backedby T-Mobile and Sprint networks. </p> <p dir="ltr">Today, the company announced that data-only devices will be admitted to the service without any monthly device fee.Project Fi customers can use a data-only device for $10 for 1GB per month. </p> <p dir="ltr">Staying true to the service’s premise, Google is charging for exactly what is used. Netflix update uses less data and makes everything look better

<p dir="ltr">Everyone’s favorite video streaming app, Netflix, is soon to get a lot better. Not only will it look much better, it will also use less data. It has done this by re-encoding its entire library to compress files in a more intelligent way.</p> <p dir="ltr">One of the ways it has done this is by looking at what device you are watching Netflix from, combined with your connection speed, and determines the best possible stream to send you.</p> <p dir="ltr">Before, if you used a slow connection, Netflix would simply send you a low-res video feed. However, now it will send you a higher quality feed with a lower bitrate. Thisresults in a higher resolution looking image, but maintains a lower file size.</p> <p dir="ltr">To see this, the first image is a 1080p cropped image of Netflix’s BoJack Horseman, and the second image is of the new lower bitrate version. The new version looks much crisper than before, and got rid of any extra artifacts.</p> <p dir="ltr">For cartoons, this means they will always look better, but for faster moving media, it will still show you lower resolution video to maintain a higher bitrate needed for the fast-movement.</p> <p dir="ltr">However, this will vary depending on the video you are watching. Shows like Orange is the New Blackwill be shown at a higher resolution and lower bitrate, however, no significant quality improvement will be seen. This will still result in the same high quality image, but save bandwidth due to the lower bitrate.</p> <p dir="ltr">Netflix says the new encoding can save up to20% less bandwidth than currently. This is pretty huge considering Netflix uses some of the most data out of any app or service. <p dir="ltr">Sony might be a longtime manufacturer of Android devices, but the company is focusingon another mobile operating system when it comes to using its video streaming service. Along with Amazon’s Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, Sonyannounced in Novemberthat PlayStation Vue would be accessible on a Chromecast. </p> <p dir="ltr">Support for those two Amazondevices started right away while a wait was put in place for the service’s availability on Google’s little media player. The wait is finally over, but the structure of PlayStation Vue’s Chromecast support is a bit.. limited.People with Android devices are still unable to use PlayStation Vue on a Chromecast.</p> <p dir="ltr"> Happen to own a device with iOS on it? You’re good to go.Sony is limiting PlayStation Vue’s use on Chromecast to only allow people with iOS devices to stream anything. If you’re scratching your head, I’m nearly as confusedas you are.</p> <p dir="ltr"> Sony is a company withstruggling mobile divisionthat can’t seem to get a single thing right.
