There is still going to be that wide histogram of reactions between people who want to move right now verses those who are still on Windows 95, but it’s not going to be the damp squib Windows 8 was,”John-David Lovelock, head of forecasting at Gartner, is quoted as saying by ComputerWeekly.</p> <p dir="ltr"><b>No boost for PC sales</b><br> Naturally, most companies expect Windows 10 to increase PC sales in the short term, given the fact that new hardware will be needed in order to make the most of the new operating system, but the Gartner analyst estimates that shipments will remain flat.</p> <p dir="ltr">“In other words, it will be a good year, as flat is the new up, where PC sales are concerned. But in general, there will not be any significant new PC purchases, it’s mainly going to be replacements of existing PCs.</p> <p dir="ltr"> The idea that Windows 10 will save the PC is just not going to hold true,” he says. And his statement does make sense. Anxiety, tears, as Lagos shuts Ladipo Market

<p dir="ltr">IT was frustration, anger and tears at the Ladipo Spare Parts Market yesterday as traders scampered to salvage the little wares they could find following the demolition of some of their shops and the eventual shutting of the market by “officials of Mushin local council.</p> <p dir="ltr"> The officials claimed that the exercise was to make way for “redevelopment.”When The Guardian visited the market, the entrance gate was sealed and the roof of the shops demolished, with a banner from the council, which was strapped to the gate, informing the traders that a developer would rebuild the section into an ultra-modern market.</p> <p dir="ltr">Traders said yesterday morning that they met “hoodlums” vandalising the market with bulldozers escorted by policemen and SARS operatives. Others, who were visibly devastated, shed tears uncontrollably, saying that there was no prior notice from the authorities to vacate their shops for a redevelopment.</p> <p dir="ltr">Grieving over their loss, they cursed that this was not what they bargained for while casting their votes earlier in the year. Some said they have just paid their rents, the most recent being two days ago.</p> <p dir="ltr">The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the market, Kanayo Okonkwo, said there was no notice to prepare the traders beforehand, adding, “as it stands, we are in raining season. If it rains, it will spoil all our goods. That would take us back to square one.</p> <p dir="ltr">“They didn’t tell us anything. I don’t know where they want us to go. We don't have other shops. Assuming they gave us some kind of notice, we would know what to do, we came today to sell but found the a lock on the gate.</p> <p dir="ltr">” He added: “We want to know why they vandalised a section of the market. If they have any issue within themselves,let them sort it out. We came here to look for daily bread, not to disturb anybody. If they really planned to develop the market, they should have at least informed us.</p> <p dir="ltr"> “The governor of Lagos State should come to our aid. If they want us to leave, we will do that. <p dir="ltr">#Windows10#Software–Windows 10 10158 Update Arrives Ahead of Release– </p> <p dir="ltr">Microsoft’s Windows 10 operating system is officially less than a month away from release and Microsoft is celebrating the occasion with Windows 10 10158, a new version of the operating system for members of its Windows Insiders Program with new features and crucial change.</p> <p dir="ltr">Microsoft announced Windows 10 10158 was rolling out to members of the Windows Insiders Program in a blog post late yesterday afternoon on its Blogging Windows site. </p> <p dir="ltr">All told, Windows 10 10158 focuses less on flashy new features and more on delivering the features and stability that Windows 7 and Windows 8 users will expect from the free upgrade.</p> <p dir="ltr">Of the notable improvements, Microsoft Edge in Windows 10 10158 is closer to being a full-fledged working piece of the Windows ecosystem. </p> <p dir="ltr">In Windows 10 10159 Microsoft has tweaked some performance issues and added a new dark theme to match the dark coloring of other apps made by Microsoft for Windows 10.</p> <p dir="ltr">To make migration to Microsoft Edge easier, Windows 10 10159 adds an importer for favorites. Taps can be moved in and out of different Microsoft Edge windows. </p> <p dir="ltr">Passwords can be saved and synced too. Microsoft has also added an optional Home button.</p> <p dir="ltr">Microsoft Edge already includes a dedicated Reading Mode for enjoying long form articles and a note taking mode for anyone using Windows 10 on a PC with a stylus. </p> <p dir="ltr">It is the primary browser for Windows 10, with Microsoft hoping that Internet Explorer will only being used for websites that absolutely need it for compatibility purposes.</p> <p dir="ltr">Cortana, Microsoft’s personal assistant picks up anew design and a huge new feature in Windows 10 10158. </p> <p dir="ltr">In the final version of Windows 10 that goes out to users, Cortana will be able to send emails that are dictated to here.</p> <p dir="ltr">That experiences is in this version of Windows 10 for the first time. Microsoft says users will need an internet connection to get the feature working. </p> <p dir="ltr">For now, sending emails with<br> Cortana is limited to the United States. Cortana also pulls down calendar and meeting information from Microsoft’s Office 365 service for those who use it with Windows 10 10158 Tablet Mode is one of the completely new experiences for Windows 10. </p> <p dir="ltr">Inspired by both the Windows 8 Start Screen and the Windows 7 Start Menu, Tablet Mode gives users of 2-in-1s a full screen Start Screen, a universal back button on the Taskbar, and fullscreen apps.</p> <p dir="ltr">It also hides almost the unnecessary elements that tablet and touch users don’t need. Microsoft says Windows 10 10158 has fixes for old Windows Programs and Windows Store apps. Swiping up on the left side of the Start Screen now opens a list containing every installed app too, something that wasn’t there before.</p> <p dir="ltr">The Snipping Tool now has a timer and the Photos app supports animated images, called GIFs. Some animations have gotten tweaks too.</p> <p dir="ltr">All told, Windows 10 10158 feels more solid than anything we’ve seen from Microsoft since last fall.</p> <p dir="ltr"> Previous versions of Windows 10 provided to members of the Windows Insiders Program suffered from performance issues and bugs, leaving some to speculate that the operating system might not be ready for launch.</p> <p dir="ltr"> Releasing a completely stable version of Windows 10 by its self-imposed deadline now eems possible.</p> <p dir="ltr">Windows 10 will arrive as a free update for notebook, desktop and tablet users on July 29th. Microsoft plans on offering the operating system as a free upgrade to anyone who has a PC running Windows 7 or Windows 8 free of charge.</p> <p dir="ltr"> Windows Vista users will be able to upgrade too, but they’ll have to pay for a digital download of the upgrade. Militants Attack Customs Base In Akwa Ibom, Kill One

<p dir="ltr">Gunmen suspected to be Niger Delta militants on Monday attacked the Nigerian Customs Service Base in Oron, Akwa Ibom state killing an officer and going away with 10 rifles.</p> <p dir="ltr">A source who disclosed this information to Premium Times, said the gunmen attacked the base at about 9pm yesterday.</p> <p dir="ltr">According to the source, Esin Ufot, a fishing community in Oron Local Government Area where the Nigerian Customs Marine Base is located has come under consistent attacks by the hoodlums.</p> <p dir="ltr">“The so-called militants attacked theNigerian Customs Marine office in Oron and killed one officer, injured anther and went away with 10 rifles”,the source said.</p> <p dir="ltr">Another source who spoke with media outfit, said that the militants were becoming more bold by the day and have been wreaking havoc in many communities in the riverine area.</p> <p dir="ltr">According to him, the militants have raided the police station, the Nigerian Immigrations Barracks and key fishing settlements in the area.</p> <p dir="ltr">“The situation is becoming very critical nowadays as the militants now attack security operatives and local fishermen alike.</p> <p dir="ltr">“The other day, they ransacked a police station and later they attacked an Immigrations Base.</p> <p dir="ltr">“From Oron waterway to Uta Ewa in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area, the militants have been robbing and killing people almost on a daily basis.</p> <p dir="ltr">“The last time it happened here in Oron they invaded and over powered the marine police and carted away their arms while the policemen fled for their lives”,the source said.</p> <p dir="ltr">The source however noted that the senator representing the area in the National Assembly would soon raise a motion of urgent national importance to draw attention to the menace.</p> <p dir="ltr">Confirming the attack, the commissioner of police in Akwa Ibom state, Gabriel Achong said: “Yes, it is true that militants attackedthe Marine Base of the Nigerian Customs Service in Oron yesterday (Monday).</p> <p dir="ltr">“It is also true that one Customs officer was killed and 10 rifles taken away by the militants.</p> <p dir="ltr">”Achong however said the Monday attack was an isolated case, denying there had been repeated attacks in the area.</p> <p dir="ltr">The attack comes hours after it was reported that a group of gunmen kidnapped Madam Martha Binabo, the wife of former acting governor of Bayelsa state and currently House of reps member, Nestor Binabo.</p>

Previously thought of purely in negative terms, the work produced at a number of organised “hackathon” events is highlighting that much good can come from hacking.</p> <p dir="ltr">Of course, this depends upon your definition of the term, but many computer programmers are attempting to reclaim the word, moving it away from security breaches and toward a general interest in the coding subculture. </p> <p dir="ltr">– just the latest entry in a long-standing partnership between the two organisations. For two days earlier this month, IBM invited a select group of developers to create apps that would improve the Wimbledon experience for spectators. </p> <p dir="ltr">There was a wide range of ideas on show at the event, ranging from a ticket sharing app to software that tracks spectator movements to help alleviate congestion issues. </p> <p dir="ltr">The winning idea came from Matt Wellings and Edward Wills, who came up with a more effective method of re-selling tickets. </p> <p dir="ltr">Their app, Serial Box, reduced the time between ticket return and resale from 20 minutes to less than five seconds, while enabling fans to take home a physical copy of their ticket as a souvenir. </p> <p dir="ltr">Using small NFC tags, each ticket is given a unique ID so that when spectators leave the event, they can drop their ticket into a box and it is automatically re-registered as an available ticket via firmware and a native app. </p> <p dir="ltr">By improving this process, the app not only makes it easier for fans to attend matches, but it also improves the atmosphere at Wimbledon by creating fuller courts.</p> <p dir="ltr">During the development process there was a real sense of collaboration in the air, something that is widely encouraged at hackathons. </p> <p dir="ltr">Generally speaking, developers at these events have not met before, but pair up based on their complementary skill sets and ideas for the competition. </p> <p dir="ltr">The mix of backgrounds and opinions is one of the key factors for generating innovative software solutions.</p> <p dir="ltr">The event was being run in conjunction with Rewired State, an organisation focused on finding digital solutions to business challenges. </p> <p dir="ltr">One of the ambassadors for the firm’s under-18s branch, Ryan Oliver, was selected as a developer at the hackathon and explained that, despite being associated with the most prestigious tennis tournament in the world, the atmosphere at the Wimbledon hackathon was relaxed.</p> <p dir="ltr">For this particular event, participants were paid to attend, but they were given a broad brief that allowed for plenty of creative freedom. This was the pitch by the Finnish creator that got the ball rolling for many different technological advances. </p> <p dir="ltr">Yes,that also means that you wouldn’t be able to use WhatsApp if this wasn’t invented.</p> <p dir="ltr">Though most of the credit does belong to Matti Makkonen, he saw the whole SMS thing as a joint effort between Friedham Hillebrand (creator of the 160 character format in 1985) and others.</p> <p dir="ltr">Even though there are other apps that utilise instant messaging that are taking over, it can be said that the SMS has given them the boost they needed to reach where they are now.</p> <p dir="ltr">And it’s not just the text messaging, the entire Twitter social network is based on the SMS’s principles.</p> <p dir="ltr"> Hence the 140 character limit. And make no mistake, the SMS is still a vital mode of communication in the areas where either the mobile internet is too expensive, or heavily censored by the government. </p> <p dir="ltr">Needless to say, SMS is still connecting people and who knows, might even be saving lives in some situations. <p dir="ltr">Twenty two women and girls recruited as would-be suicide bombers by Boko Haram Islamists are undergoing rehabilitation.</p> <p dir="ltr">The Head of the Countering Violent Extremism Department in the Office of the National Security Adviser, Dr. Fatima Akilu, briefed President Muhammadu Buhari about the department’s activities at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday, June 30.</p> <p dir="ltr">The objective of the institute is to deradicalize youngsters and women indoctrinated by the militants and used for suicide bombing and fighting against the government institutions. </p> <p dir="ltr">The organization also exerts every effort to  prevent others from joining terrorist organisations and violent sects.</p> <p dir="ltr">At the moment no fewer than 22 female suicide bombers are undergoing deradicalization programs, after which they will be able to return to their communities. According to Akilu, the non-military initiative is running simultaneously with the military actions aimed at combating terrorism in Nigeria.</p> <p dir="ltr">The CVE has already rehabilitated no fewer than 305 victims of terrorism rescued from the Sambisa Forest by the Nigerian army. </p> <p dir="ltr">Besides, 47 surrendered Boko Haram members voluntarily left the sect and embraced the National Security Corridor Programme.</p> <p dir="ltr">President Buhari praised the results of the hard work of the Countering Violent Extremism Department in the NSA office and other agencies.</p> <p dir="ltr"> He also promised that the Federal Government will continue to  pool resources and provide support to victims of Boko Haram insurgency.</p>

The sales office will be led by 51-year-old Nunu Ntshingila, chairwoman of WPP’s Ogilvy& Mather agency in South Africa.</p> <p dir="ltr">There’s more than a billion people living on the African continent, and only some 120 million of them are connected to Facebook.</p> <p dir="ltr">For the largest social media site in the world, this is both a problem and an opportunity for growth. The opportunity part is easy to understand, and Facebook’s vice president for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Nicola Mendelsohn, puts it very simple:</p> <p dir="ltr"> “This is one of the places where our next billion users are coming from“, he said. But the problem part is fairly large: Africa’s fixed internet connections are scarce, meaning not a lot of people know about the Facebook’s full website. </p> <p dir="ltr">Mobile internet, on the other hand, is getting stronger by the minute, but that’s not enough.</p> <p dir="ltr">Smartphones, which are necessary to use the full potential of Facebook, are expensive and rare, with most people using the cheaper and less capable variants. </p> <p dir="ltr">These devices, called feature phones, can’t run Facebook’s full mobile app.</p> <p dir="ltr">However, Facebook’s been preparing for the Africa entrance for quite some time now, with the introduction of Internet.org, a free internet initiative which would bring Facebook and a couple of other websites, free of charge in the developing world.</p> <p dir="ltr"> It’s also developing a mobile app designed for less capable phones. Google says it translates more than 100 billion words a day, shows off improved conversational results

However, it hasn’t been as useful in translating casual conversation as with official documents until now.</p> <p dir="ltr">The company says it’s been working with thousands of people in its user community to improve translations. <p dir="ltr">#CustomVibrations#iOS–How to create custom vibrations on your iPhone :Apple’s iOS mobile operating system ships with a series of default vibration patterns for users, but it could be these aren’t quite working out.</p> <p dir="ltr">Perhaps you’re missing notifications outright because the vibrations configured on your iPhone aren’t prominent enough, or it could be that you’re often feeling “phantom alerts” (which trick users into thinking a message has reached their device) when the smartphone is resting in a pocket.</p> <p dir="ltr">Perhaps, instead, you don’t find each default vibration pattern to be unique enough,making it tricky to distinguish between alerts for calls, texts, email, and social media based on your iPhone’s vibration notification alone.</p> <p dir="ltr">Thankfully, these problems can be solved using a hidden feature in Apple’s iOS, which allows iPhone owners to configure custom, complex vibration patterns for their various incoming notifications.</p> <p dir="ltr"> Better still, the process of creating your own unique vibration alerts on iOS is quick and easy.</p> <p dir="ltr">First up, you’ll need to launch the iOS Settings application. Then, navigate over to the “Sounds” tab, and select the type of alert you’re looking to change the vibration pattern for. </p> <p dir="ltr">You see, individual, default vibration patterns are available for incoming calls, messages, voicemail, email, tweets, Facebook posts, Calendar app events, Reminders app notifications, and AirDrop alerts.</p> <p dir="ltr">As such, iPhone owners can configure custom vibration patterns for each one of these notification types. You might prefer a faster, more rapid vibration pattern for incoming calls, or a slower, steadier pattern for messages.</p> <p dir="ltr">Through configuring a smart,custom vibration pattern, users will more easily be able to recognise the nature of incoming notifications based on the vibration itself (as users can with the Apple Watch, for instance), and vibrations should also be easier to feel.</p> <p dir="ltr">So, with that said, let’s go back to the Settings app. Here, in the “Sounds” tab, you’ll need to choose the type of notification you’re looking to edit.</p> <p dir="ltr"> Then, touch “Vibration” (which appears at the top of the subsequent list of alerts). At this point, a range of default iOS vibration patterns will be available to choose from, but at the bottom of the list, a button labeled “Create New Vibration” is also available for users to select. To create your own vibration pattern for your chosen alert, touch this button. </p> <p dir="ltr">At the next screen, users will be able to “tap out” their chosen vibration pattern using their iPhone’s touch screen. Once you’ve done this, you’ll also be able to preview your custom pattern using the “Play” icon in the bottom-left corner of the screen.</p> <p dir="ltr"> Your iPhone will then buzz out the vibration pattern using the handset’s built-in motor. From here, completing the process is as simple as touching “Save,” and choosing a name for the alert.</p> <p dir="ltr">Our tip: Try holding down your finger on the iPhone’s screen for longer in order to increase the intensity of your vibration. <p dir="ltr">#Malwarebytes#Securtiy–Malwarebytes is giving pirates a second chance to go straight :</p> <p dir="ltr">For years companies have been battling with vicious groups to prevent them from “cracking” their products and services and use them for free.</p> <p dir="ltr">Microsoft, for instance, has implemented several measures including product activation, to make it harder than ever to crack the Windows operating system versions and its Office suite.</p> <p dir="ltr">Several game companies have devised systems where,until a user connects and verifies the game title by them, it won’t play. </p> <p dir="ltr">But in a world where everyone is trying to crack down on piracy, a company is embracing it and giving pirates a chance to turn into legit users.</p> <p dir="ltr">Security firm Malwarebytes announces Amnesty program, under which it is allowing users to enter the license keys they gleaned for cheap from shady dealers, or simply illegally obtained it from somewhere, and issuing them with a new serial key. </p> <p dir="ltr">The new license key in question will be unique to the user, the company says, and it will offer a 12-month subscription to the premium (paid) version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware security suite. </p> <p dir="ltr">“The Internet is full of pioneers and cowboys. It’s also got its fair share of pirates and trolls. </p> <p dir="ltr">Some of those bad guys may have duped you into purchasing a counterfeit version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. </p> <p dir="ltr">Or perhaps we’ve simply detected a problem with your key. Not to worry. <p dir="ltr">THERE are strong indications that the world is moving toward an era in which nearly every element of life will be data-driven. Individuals and corporations will sell, donate and trade information on open exchanges. </p> <p dir="ltr">Inanimate objects will spring to life all around us, becoming more aware, responsive and connected. Decision-making will be enhanced by artificial intelligence in ways never seen before, a recent study has revealed.</p> <p dir="ltr">The study also showed that Information will be communicated and absorbed through multiple human senses and that customers will be able to better control their own privacy through new tools. In this new world order, value will shift from products and services to the information they generate.</p> <p dir="ltr">The new study titled: The Information Generation: Transforming The Future, Today, conducted by Institute for the Future and Vanson Bourne on behalf of EMC, explored the impact of a growing global community of digital citizens. </p> <p dir="ltr">These individuals are always connected and engaged online, and have the world’s information at their fingertips.</p> <p dir="ltr">They also view the world very differently. Based on input from 3,600 Director-to-C-Suite business leaders across 18 countries, the study revealed new expectations of these individuals and identifies the fundamental business attributes critical for organizations to successfully compete and thrive in this new landscape.</p> <p dir="ltr">The study further revealed that 96 per cent of business leader surveyed believe new technologies have forever changed the rules of business. </p> <p dir="ltr">In addition, 93 per cent reported that recent technology advancements are resetting customer expectations, and nearly all say this will accelerate over the next decade. </p> <p dir="ltr">The top reported customer expectations are faster access to services, 24/7 and “everywhere” access and connectivity, access on more devices, and a more unique personalized experience.</p> <p dir="ltr">The polled business leaders agreed that essential requirements for any business in this information driven era include:</p> <p dir="ltr"> Predictively spot new opportunities in markets, demonstrate transparency and trust, innovate in agile ways, deliver unique and personalized experiences, operate in real time. Emergence of Ekweremadu as Deputy Senate President painful – Saraki

<p dir="ltr">In this interview with BRIDGET CHIEDU ONOCHIE, Senate President Bukola Saraki disclosed some of the intrigues that heralded his emergence, which he described as “an act of fate”.</p> <p dir="ltr"> Excerpts:The build-up to the nomination</p> <p dir="ltr">THE truth is that I have not spoken before since all this time to tell you what exactly happened. </p> <p dir="ltr">First, as regards the meeting, I did not stop meeting till around 4 am on Tuesday and I got the information that efforts were likely being put in place to make sure I did not get access into the chambers.</p> <p dir="ltr"> So, as early as 5 am, I had a contingent plan that I must have my way because the plan before was that we should go to the Transcorp Hilton between 8 and 9 am to proceed to the National Assembly.</p> <p dir="ltr"> But I was advised that it would not be safe or secure for me to do that because there were some who were making sure that if I do not get to the chamber, it will not be possible for anybody to nominate or second me. </p> <p dir="ltr">So, I had to find my own way. I can tell you today that I was in the National Assembly Complex as early as 6 in the morning. I stayed in the car park, inside the car from that 6 am to 9.45 am.</p> <p dir="ltr"> This is the truth. I was there and there was no communication. So, anybody that said they spoke to me or they called me was lying. </p> <p dir="ltr">I did not know what was going on. All I did was to monitor how people were arriving. It was at 9.45 I got information that the Clerk had entered the chambers. </p> <p dir="ltr">I got out of my car, put on my Babariga and walked from the Car Park into the chambers. That was the reason some of you would have noticed I looked very tired that morning. </p> <p dir="ltr">Even when I was in the chambers, the only thing I observed was that some of our Senators were not present but for the fact that people were arriving in batches, I was of the opinion that they will come in subsequent batches. </p> <p dir="ltr">Then, by 10 am, the event started and before we knew it, my election had come and gone.</p> <p dir="ltr"> That was what happened with regards to it. Even some of my members were worried that they did not see me and they were relieved when they saw me in the chambers.</p> <p dir="ltr"><b>No deal with </b><b>Ekweremadu</b></p> <p dir="ltr">Honesty, nobody in his wildest calculation ever thought that Senators would not be present on the day of inauguration.</p> <p dir="ltr"> In my own view, some of those who worked closely with us would not have been surprised with the outcome of the election because I worked hard. I had direct contact with every single Senator. </p> <p dir="ltr">I was not relying on anybody. Even within our party, I worked hard and was in touch with everybody, seeing them, talking to them and we began to build confidence. </p> <p dir="ltr">Also on the other side, the Peoples Democratic Party,I was talking to them.</p> <p dir="ltr">That was the reason I laughed when people said that I had a deal in the emergence of Senator Ike Ekweremadu.</p> <p dir="ltr"> Idid not make any deal for Ekweremadu to win. I penetrated; I did not need a deal because as I said, I worked hard.</p> <p dir="ltr"> Everybody who was a Senator, I was canvassing and campaigning for their votes and some of you will remember the meeting we held at the Transcorp whereby former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio co-chaired with Senator Gobir. </p> <p dir="ltr">If you heard most of them there, the position they were taking was that ‘this is the Senate President we want’. </p> <p dir="ltr">This was not on any party line. Those who came from PDP, their view was that this is the Senate President we believe in and we believe can lead us.</p> <p dir="ltr"> So,when I heard that there was deal, it was because one was able to convince a lot of our colleagues and they accepted that this is the person that was going to lead and as such, the outcome of Senate Presidency election was positive.</p> <p dir="ltr"> But the fact was that we worked hard for it. We campaigned and won the confidence of our colleagues even within the APC itself.</p> <p dir="ltr"> I believed that the way the events turned out was some evidence of fate and destiny because sometimes, I sit down and wonder how some of our colleagues found themselves in the International Conference Centre. </p> <p dir="ltr">I mean, if there had been a situation where the Clerk announced that the event has been postponed, it would have been a different thing. </p> <p dir="ltr">I am sure if you ask some of my colleagues what actually happened, they will not find an answer toit other than that there must be a hand offate and destiny.</p> <p dir="ltr"><b>PDP’s</b><b> endorsement</b></p> <p dir="ltr">What I am saying is that PDP Senators had announced to the public that they were supporting me without me meeting with them.</p> <p dir="ltr">  PDP as a party told the public at about 10 pm Monday, June 8 that because in their own meeting, majority of their Senators have told the party that ‘this is who they were going to vote for’, they decided to agree with them.</p> <p dir="ltr">So, even in their own interest strategically, they decided that since 30 of their Senators were going to vote for me anyway, the remaining had better join and concur. </p> <p dir="ltr">It was not until 2 am that they called us to tell us that this was what they have decided and when they said that they had a candidate, we also told them we had a candidate in the name of Ali Ndume. After our meeting, it was our own thinking that after we finish the Senate President election; the two groups in APC would meet and agree on a candidate. </p> <p dir="ltr">We never in our own team thought the other group would not turn up and by the time we got there, we were25 or there about and they were over 40 PDP members. So, there was no way they would not have defeated us and that was what happened.</p> <p dir="ltr">And when people said it was a deal, I said to them that if the Clerk had started the procedure in the House of Representatives first before proceeding to the Senate, it is the House of Reps, I am sure, that would have had a Deputy Speaker from PDP. </p> <p dir="ltr">It was the two hours the Clerk of the National Assembly spent with us that gave the time to House members to return to the House of Reps and have enough number to prevent that kind of event. </p> <p dir="ltr">For any APC member, it is unfortunate that we have a PDP man as a Deputy Senate President. It is painful for any APC member. That was not what we signed for when we went through all the struggles. </p> <p dir="ltr">It is unfortunate it has happened but it should be unfair to put all these blames on one side because it was a combination of luck and miscalculations that led us to have what happened that morning – that some Senators were in another place instead of being at the National Assembly. </p> <p dir="ltr">So, to suggest that it was out of desperate act to emerge, is the fact that I reject completely and those who had followed the event knew that I did not need that kind of deal to emerge. </p> <p dir="ltr">As I said, if we had had Senate elections second, Ekweremadu would not have emerged Deputy Senate President. The problem would have been in the House of Reps.</p> <p dir="ltr"> My view is that we will see how to work with it and how we would be able to move on as a party and still push in through our agenda.</p> <p dir="ltr"><b>The position of the APC</b></p> <p dir="ltr">We have it on record that at no time did the Party say it has zoned this position to a particular zone. Soon after the election, the party held a meeting at the caucus level.</p> <p dir="ltr"> At the caucus level, there was a working document that the party presented, which showed that it has zoned the Senate President to North Central but at the meeting, it was objected and thus, the party needed to go back and work on the paper.</p> <p dir="ltr"> We waited for the party but there was no follow up. Then, we started hearing rumour that the party was thinking that it might consider not holding on to that proposal from the National Working Committee of North Central and may be, go to the North East.</p> <p dir="ltr"> Then, the governors got involved, did their own meeting and also recommended North Central. </p> <p dir="ltr">All we were waiting for was for the party to announce North Central but all of a sudden, the leaders of the party categorically came and said there was no zoning.</p> <p dir="ltr"> If the party had said it has zoned this position to the North East, Abubakar Bukola Saraki would never have contested this issue.</p> <p dir="ltr"> But the party said there was no zoning and that it would use merit and all that. It also said anybody from the two zones can contest. <p dir="ltr">TWO suspects arrested over the murder of the former Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Technology, Akure, Professor Albert Ilemobade yesterday narrated why and how they committed the terrible act.</p> <p dir="ltr">The two Daniel Ita, security night-guard and Olayemi Bamitale, his former driver were paraded in Akure by the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Isaac Eke. </p> <p dir="ltr">The duo, who confessed to the crime and narrated how they murdered the former university don, revealed that they committed the crime for pecuniary reasons: to sell his red Toyota Rav 4 Jeep.</p> <p dir="ltr">According to the CP, immediately, the late VC was declared missing, Ondo State Police Command sent signals to other police outposts in the country in frantic search of the late Professor, who was initially believed to have been kidnapped.</p> <p dir="ltr">Eke said the command received information from their counterparts in Ogun State that the duo have been arrested during an operation. <br> “The Command received information from Ogun State Police Command that the Professor’s night guard, Daniel Ita and his former driver, Bamitale had been arrested with a Toyota Rav 4 Jeep belonging to the late Prof.</p> <p dir="ltr">”Upon their arrest, the Eke said his men swung into action and combed the compound of the late Professor, where it was discovered that the suspects had killed him and dumped his body in a store.</p> <p dir="ltr">According to Eke: “Detectives from Ondo State Command later discovered that the night guard and the former driver strangulated the aged Professor and dumped his body in an isolated store in the compound.</p> <p dir="ltr">“They thereafter locked the entrance gate from outside and went away with his RAV 4 Jeep, laptop, mobile phone and other valuables. The suspects confessed to have sold both the laptop and the mobile phone in Lagos,” he said.</p> <p dir="ltr">During questioning by newsmen, both Daniel and Bamitale narrated to reporter show they carried out the assassination of Professor Ilemobade in his compound and made it look he was kidnapped.</p> <p dir="ltr">The suspects, pointing accusing fingers at each other, confirmed that they strangulated Ilemobade, made away with his personal properties and drove away his Red Toyota SUV Jeep to Lagos where they had planned to sell their loots at cheaper rates.</p> <p dir="ltr">“We called our oga out of the compound and lied to him that there was an outbreak in the small security guard room. <p dir="ltr">The male and female world number ones kick started their respective campaigns with routine straight set wins in their opening matches. </p> <p dir="ltr">Serbia’s Novak Djokovic broke Philip Kohlschreiber of Germany in each set to take the match 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, just under two hours. </p> <p dir="ltr">The game was expected to be a tough one and it was, with both players exchanging breaks in the first and third sets. </p> <p dir="ltr">Djokovic, who came out on top at the end of the match, kissed the grass to show how much the straight sets victory meant to him.</p> <p dir="ltr">He will face Jarkko Nienimen for his next match, who defeated Lleyton Hewitt in a tough five set match. Hewitt, a former world number one and Wimbledon champion, is playing his last Wimbledon and is due to retire next year.</p> <p dir="ltr">Fernando Verdasco survived a tough five-set battle against Martin Klizan to win his opening match, which lasted almost four hours.</p> <p dir="ltr"> Another interesting five-setter was the win by the British teenager, Liam Broady, who defeated Australian, Marinko Matosevic under fourhours as well.</p> <p dir="ltr">There were, however, no surprises for the men, as all the seeds expected to advance, did. This wasn’t the case of the WTA, however, as several seeds were ousted on day 1.</p> <p dir="ltr">Flavia Pennetta, Francesca Schiavone and Roberta Vinci bowed out very quickly, but the biggest upset of the day was the defeat of ninth-seeded Carla Suarez-Navarro. <p dir="ltr">More than 4,000 victims have been registered in the trial of former Chadian dictator Hissene Habre for atrocities committed during his presidency, their lawyers said Monday. </p> <p dir="ltr">Once dubbed “Africa’s Pinochet”, the 72-year-old has been in custody in Senegal since his arrest in June 2013 at the home he shared with his wife and children.</p> <p dir="ltr">Rights groups say 40,000 people were killed during his eight years in power in Chad under a regime marked by fierce repression of his opponents and the targeting of rival ethnic groups.</p> <p dir="ltr">The group “represents more than 4,000 direct and indirect victims” to be taken into account by the Extraordinary African Chambers in Dakar, Chadian lawyer Jacqueline Moudeina told a news conference in the Senegalese capital.</p> <p dir="ltr">Habre’s trial for torture, war crimes and crimes against humanity is due to begin on July 20.Delayed for years by Senegal, where Habre has lived since being ousted in 1990, the hearings will set a historic precedent as until now African leaders accused of atrocities have been tried in international courts.</p> <p dir="ltr">Moudeina said the trial would be “a turning point for justice in Africa and will sound an alarm for all the dictators whose crimes will one day catch up with them”.</p> <p dir="ltr">Moudeina said the case for the prosecution — particularly documents demonstrating a directlink between Habre the country’s secret police, the Documentation and Security Directorate (DDS) — was “solid”.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Habre had perfect knowledge of the operations of the DDS. Comparing to the previous year’s records -when it first opened the company’s staff gender and race make-up – the female population within Facebook has only increased by one per cent.</p> <p dir="ltr">In addition, the tech division of the company employed even less women at 16 per cent. </p> <p dir="ltr">In terms of the ethnicity of Facebook’s workforce in the US, Caucasians dominate at 55 per cent. Facebook Threatens Sahara Reporters Over Saraki

<p dir="ltr">Facebook has threatened to unpublished the (Facebook) fan page of online news agency, SaharaReporters, for uploading a UK passport which purportedly depicts Senator Saraki as a UK citizen. </p> <p dir="ltr">Bukola Saraki is a holder of a UK passport?! Photo: SaharaReportersSaharea Reporters yesterday, June 28, uploaded the Uk passport of the Senate president to back its claim that Saraki is not a Nigerian citizen.</p> <p dir="ltr">It also alleged that Saraki was in 1990, charged with looting N510,000 at Societe Generale Bank of Nigeria, adding that Saraki is culpable in the liquidation of the said bank. </p> <p dir="ltr">Facebook has however removed Saraki’s UK Passport from Sahara Reporters’ page after cautioning the news agency.</p> <p dir="ltr">Puzzled by the decision of the Facebook, Sahara Reporters took to Twitter to query the rational behind the threats. Tuesday has one extra second and that could be dangerous for the internet

<p dir="ltr">This Tuesday, a single second will be added to clocks around the world to help counter Earth’s rotation slowing down.</p> <p dir="ltr">Called a “leap second,” it has been added approximately every 18 months since 1972 to rectify ‘lost’ time from the slowing rotation,<br> ensuring that the atomic clock is in sync with Earth.</p> <p dir="ltr">Humans can handle the additional second without even being aware of it, but computers aren’t quite<br> accustomed to the path of time suddenly changing.</p> <p dir="ltr">A leap second was last added to the clock in 2012, during a weekend, which wreaked havoc online.</p> <p dir="ltr">It caused Reddit, Foursquare, Yelp, LinkedIn, Gawker and StumbleUpon to be knocked offline entirely, as well as hundreds of flights to be delayed in Australia .</p> <p dir="ltr">Many issues were caused by a bug in the Network Time Protocol used to keep Linux system clocks in<br> sync. The flaw caused NTP to lock up some systems entirely, requiring a reboot before they could recover.</p> <p dir="ltr">When the leap second comes around, it means the system clock sees an additional figure , like so:</p> <p dir="ltr">2011-12-31 23.59.57<br> 2011-12-31 23.59.58<br> 2011-12-31 23.59.59<br> 2011-12-31 23.59.60 <– leap second<br> 2012-01-01 00.00.00<br> 2012-01-01 00.00.01<br> 2012-01-01 00.00.02</p> <p dir="ltr">The second will be inserted into network time services at the exact same moment worldwide, on<br> June 30th at 23:59:60 UTC.</p> <p dir="ltr">This time around it’s critical that businesses are ready, with the leap second being added during a time when trading on stock markets is open.</p> <p dir="ltr">Some businesses are ready for the leap second to be added, like Google and Amazon, which adjust server clocks gradually over a number of weeks so that it’s not a sudden change.</p> <p dir="ltr">Others that rely on time-critical systems — like stock markets and utilities — are nervous about it<br> going wrong.
