Prof. Attahiru Jega, the chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected
to leave office come June 30, 2015.
There have been speculations that Jega may may leave office before the scheduled date but INEC
spokesperson, Nick Dazang, however said that Jega would be in office until the end of the month.
Prof. Attahiru Jega After conducting the general elections held on
March 28 and April 11, Jega had indicated not to seek second term in office.
Jega was widely applauded for the successful conduct of the elections where card readers were deployed to reduce election flaws.
The chairman was appointed in June 2010 by former President Goodluck Jonathan
He enshrined his name in Nigeria history as the only chairman of the commision to conduct two
general elections in Nigeria’s electoral history.
